Water and Breakfast.

Dear Parents/Carers,

We have noticed that there are an increasing number of children bringing juice into school in their water bottles. In order to meet healthy eating, NHS guidance and to promote oral health, they should be having access to water ONLY during the day. This is why Derbyshire County Council catering team have made it their policy to serve only water with school meals.

Please can you now ensure that you send your child with water only in their bottle, and I will be talking to them in assembly about keeping our teeth healthy. If you feel your child may struggle with this, then we suggest that, over the next few weeks you could gradually reduce the amount of juice in the bottle each day, by watering it down. By working together, we will aim for a date of 25th March for all children to be drinking only water during the school day. If your child is bringing a packed lunch to school, they need to have only water in their lunch box or they can use their school water bottle. If you wish to discuss this further, please contact your class teacher in the first instance.

In order for children to be ready to learn we do provide every child with “breakfast”. I wanted to make sure you are aware that this consists of one round of toast for every child and then some extra if there is any left over. This is to supplement the breakfast that they have had at home and is not necessarily as substantial as some children may need!

Thank you for your continued support and I wish you all a relaxing half-term holiday! We finish at normal time on Friday 18th February and children are next in on Tuesday 1st March 2022. Monday 28th February is an INSET training day for school staff and so school is closed to pupils.
